Morning Writes: Selected Poems

Morning Writes is a collaborative poetry collection by a group of four lesbian poets who have been writing together twice a week for the last three years. The collection takes its name from the informal title of the workshop given by the organizer. It reflects the idea that you get up, take an hour, and write. That’s it. No sharing necessary. No critique. No self censor because you think you have to share in an hour. No stress to be good. Just a prompt and whatever was inside you that needed to get on the page. Much of the work in this collection, comes from that.

These poems span everything: grief and sex, aging and memory, dementia and dogs, trauma, tenderness, politics, and Joni Mitchell at the Hollywood Bowl.

Each of the four poets has decades of living behind their voice. Some have shelves of books, some have awards, some are just now letting their work be seen. Together, they write like survival and wonder depend on it. This is not a nostalgic collection. This is now.
