Issue 1 Theme: Initiation

For our first issue, we’re drawn to the idea of initiation—that moment when everything changes, and you can’t go back. Not every initiation is ceremonial. Sometimes it’s a test by fire. Sometimes it’s slow, quiet, or brutal. Sometimes it’s beautiful.

We’re interested in poems and flash nonfiction that reflect transformation, crossing over, or coming through something altered. What called you? What tested you? What did you bring back?

Bring us the story, the scar, the souvenir. Bring us the voice that made it through.

Journal Submissions

Submission Period for SNAP! Poetry Review / Issue 1: Initiations

Submissions open June 3 and close June 30, or earlier if we reach capacity.
This is our first issue, and space is limited—we encourage early submissions.

What We’re Looking For

We publish poetry and flash creative nonfiction. We especially welcome work from women, LGBTQ+, and working-class writers—voices that challenge, illuminate, or carve out space where there wasn’t space before.  Just send us your best work. We don’t always know what we want until we see it.

Submission Guidelines

Poetry

Up to 3 poems (6 pages max)

Flash Creative Nonfiction

Up to 1,000 words (essay or memoir)

Visual Poetry / Multimedia

Up to 3 pieces. Include a brief note if context helps.
Text must be part of the piece.
If video or audio, include a link to a hosted file (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Google Drive).

Visual Art (features or cover)

Up to 3 images (JPG or PNG).
Include title(s) and medium. These may be uploaded separately.

How to Submit

Submit your work via our Google Form:

You may submit once per reading period. All written material (including poetry, prose, multimedia descriptions, hosted links, and your author bio) should be combined into a single .docx or .pdf file (max 6 pages).

What to Include:

  • Your name

  • Your email

  • A short third-person bio

  • Title of your submission(s)

  • Any needed context or links for multimedia work

  • Title(s) and medium for any visual art (if submitting art)

File Format:

  • .docx or .pdf for all written work

  • JPG or PNG for visual art (uploaded separately in the form)

  • Multimedia (audio/video): include a link to hosted content

Payment & Recognition

As a new journal, we do not offer monetary compensation at this time.
However:

  • We nominate work for awards including Best of the Net and Pushcart Prize

  • We highlight contributors through features, interviews, and social media

  • We’re here to build community and help great work get seen

  • We also plan to publish a print anthology annually or every other year. Contributors selected for the anthology will receive a complimentary copy
